There are many questions that get asked over and over again in the Boba Fett – The Mandalorian Series – Costume Group Facebook group that I’d like to address here.
There is tons of information out there about Boba Fett. Each version of the costume has its own colors, greebles, history, and so on.
This FAQ is specifically for The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett costumes.
Common terms
“Post Sarlacc Damage” This is how the costume was seen in Chapter 14.
This is how the costume was seen in Chapter 15, 16, and Book of Boba Fett. Repainted and mostly pristine.
Making the costume
There are plenty of makers out there that provide all the various parts you need to make the costume. I have some of them listed on the vendors page.
With how many makers there are and the complexity of any Fett costume you are bound to have questions on if something you want to buy will ‘work’. The answer if that it depends what you want.
If you want a costume that is fun to wear and you don’t care about perfection then whatever you found will work. If it looks good to you it works.
If you want accuracy and/or join the 501st the criteria changes. Not all makers are screen accurate despite what they say. (No responsible maker should ever advertise their stuff as 501st approvable as it ultimately comes down to how it fits on you and your local GML). If you have a question on if something could be approvable post on the Bounty Hunters Guild, our Facebook group, or other Fett communities.
The answer if that it depends what you want in the end. The originally trilogy used vacuum formed armor where as the new series uses rubber casted armor. To most people they look the same and unless you’re going for peak accuracy it doesn’t really matter.
As of writing this FAQ the CRL for the 501st is being drafted and it calls for no original trilogy armor or vacuum formed armor to be used on PSD / Fresh.
What is the difference between...
Aside from the paint job there are quite a few differences.
Painting
The screen used paint colors has yet to be identified. There are many contenders. The costume designer has said she is unable to mention what was used due to NDAs. However she has confirmed that the green used on the Boba Fresh helmet (dome and lower cheeks) and armor is the same.
Rustoleum Spruce Green is often used for PSD armor, Fresh Armor, and Fresh Helmet.
